Following Argentina’s return to the World Cup stage today, we speak to Toffee Club marketing assistant Aimee Olivas about why this first game was so important for the team.
Today was a proud day for Argentina. You could feel what the moment meant for them as they stood and proudly sang their national anthem on the brink of tears. They hadn’t been to the World Cup in 12 years and they had never earned a single point at any World Cup, but today was different. They outlasted 2015 World Cup runner ups and 2011 champions in a game everyone predicted they would lose drastically.
Although Japan held most of the possession, ‘La Albiceleste’ stayed disciplined in defense, taking the game to a 0-0 draw. Whatever happens the rest of the tournament, Argentina should be incredibly proud of their journey here.
Join us for Argentina’s next game against England on the 14th June. We will show the game on all screens.
